Yahoo! It was one of the most famous search engines that have been ever used. In western countries, it was one of the most important tech products which have been used in starting days of the internet boom. Then, the Google company has been launched. After google's launch, the utilization of Yahoo decreased drastically. There are many various reasons for that. But, to keep it minimal, we are considering only the perspective of Design.

Let's have a look at Yahoo's interface.

If we observe, it gives a lot of information that may or may not be relevant for all people. The news update, weather updates, game scores, etc. These all can make users distract from performing their actions. Assume that, you are in hurry to for searching a query on Yahoo, and you noticed a sensational news update that may not be relevant or not useful for you. Probably, you may get attracted or disturbed to know about it right that moment. It makes the users kill their time unknowingly. So, let's compare this interface with Google's interface and try to figure out how it has killed Yahoo.

Here, the problem is extra information, which distracts users from search what they want. So, Google came up with a simple Interface as shown below.

They wrapped it all up into hyperlinks whoever they needed, can access it. Which, all the extra information and google's products have been included in this. Whoever is required to use that, can utilize that seamlessly. This interface and user experience made users get stick to using Google over Yahoo. Not just that, but also delivers fewer ads than Yahoo, no spam, fast and best search results and others made it to become a monopoly.
